The Farm Apprentice Mentoring Program has an opening for an Assistant Program Director beginning on December 1, 2016. See specifics below. To apply, please send your resume related to the job description and letter of intent to Phyllis Robinson,, by November 25th.


FAM Assistant Program Director would have experience:

  • as a farmer on Maui, 
  • excellent communication skills, 
  • extensive computer and social media skills, and 
  • interest in learning to write and oversee grants and programs related to agriculture. 

Duties would include:

Ø Getting to know the FAM apprentices and strengthening the cohort model as a family. Helping the PD (who is not a farmer) understand the nuances of the farming aspects of the program.

Ø  Reminding apprentices about schedule of classes and demonstrations, homework and what is required for reflection sessions

Ø  Creating an online presence for the FAM program in all HFUU related web sites and social media outlets. 

Ø  Assisting with the on-farm mentoring demonstration components by attending all 10 demonstrations and reporting back to the PD with information as required for making sure mentors are following the curriculum, exhibiting excellent teaching skills and are thorough

Ø  Setting up monitoring tools for apprentice attendance in classes and on farm demonstrations, and reporting attendance to the PD.  Have knowledge of apprentices goals.

Ø  Researching island resources to assist apprentices in realizing their farm enterprise – following up with apprentices

Ø  Have familiarity of all grants related to the program and assist in the reporting process


15 hours per week for 26 weeks at $25/hr. = $9750

December 1 – June 30, 2017.

With a chance for renewal and increased hours on July 1, 2017.
