Who Are We?
Hawaii Farmers Union United – Haleakala chapter is a state division of the National Farmers Union. The HFUU Haleakala chapter is dedicated to supporting local, community agriculture, and food production. When you join HFUU you are becoming a member of National Farmers Union which began in 1902 as an advocate for the family farmer, predating trade unions. It is a union of education, legislation, & cooperation. Maui Haleakala is a chapter of the Hawaii Farmers Union United which is a chapter of NFU.
Do you want to be a part of sustainable change? Then you’ve found the right group! To support our organization, become a member and join us at our meetings. Monthly meetings and “locavore” potlucks are held every fourth Tuesday of the month at the Haiku Community Center.
Why Should I Join?
Are you concerned about food security, availability of local organic produce, the health of our keikis, GMO’s, air and water pollution, dependance on large mainland companies, and soil fertility? These are some of the topics we address. By increasing our membership numbers, we are able to show the legislators that our organization is a voice that needs to be heard.

REPRESENTATION: Farmers Union is a powerful and respected voice on critical issues on the national and state levels. Our state and national leaders and staff understand the critical issues facing rural America and family agriculture. We represent YOUR voice to elected officials.
EDUCATION: From youth day classes and summer camps to adult learning sessions, Farmers Union believes that education is the base of success. Our programs are designed to expand knowledge and develop leadership skills in both youth and adults.
COOPERATION: Farmers Union offers technical guidance and information for rural and cooperative initiatives.
GRASSROOTS POLICY: Farmers Union policy is written and approved by our members. The issues that are important to YOU can be debated and become part of the national policy which has already happened. The chair of the National Policy Committee is an Organic Farmer.
INFORMATION: Farmers Union helps you stay up-to-date with the issues that matter most to you, your family, and your business. Our weekly e-newsletter, issue alerts, and state-specific information will keep you informed.
